Ashes Test at the Swalec Stadium
On the 8th of July 2009, Glamorgan County Cricket Club hosted the First Ashes Test Match at the newly built SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff.
As Main Club sponsors of Glamorgan Cricket Club, Paramount were proud to be awarded the Design and Construction of the second phase of Glamorgan County Cricket Ground in order to prepare the stadium for the Ashes Test Match. The work included the construction of sixteen new hospitality boxes, two new lounge / bars, a hospitality area under the media centre, new radio and TV boxes, an area for 90 journalists, a new tri-vision screen and parking bay for the new state of the art hover cover.
Nigel Roberts, Managing Director spoke about both Paramount’s involvement and the Ashes Test:
”Without doubt this has been one of our most challenging but most rewarding projects to date, and we are pleased to sing our praises on how we have delivered this complicated scheme.
There are not many even in their wildest dreams would have believed that England would play Australia in the Capital City of Wales, but this has happened, mainly due to the drive and enthusiasm of the Glamorgan Chairman, Paul Russell, and under his leadership Glamorgan Cricket Club now have a brand new 16,000 seater stadium and have raised the bar in terms of the first class facilities spectators will be able to enjoy during the match. This is not a one off, already further international matches have been served with Australia back in 2010 for a one day international and another five day test in 2011 against Sri Lanka and a Day Night Game against India.”
Paramount would like to congratulate all of the team at Glamorgan Cricket Club on a very successful Ashes Test.
